Whether its writing groups, writing organizations, writing conferences, or just people interested in the intersection of creativity and everyday life, I always look forward to addressing crowds large and small. I have found that you can never remind people often enough that everyone wants to lead interesting, creative lives, and that everyone, from Pulitzer Prize winners to magazine editors, sometimes wonders if such a thing is possible.

The Author's Roundtable
Writing a book, or a short story, or even a poem can sometimes feel like a long and lonely journey. Every writer, from an experienced novelist to a beginning playwright, could use someone who understands this journey and who can provide both a compassionate ear and a clear voice when we are uncertain if this journey is worth taking. Starting in December 2012, at East West Bookshop in Seattle's Roosevelt District, I will lead a monthly discussion about the joys and fears of the writing life. We will talk not about how we write, but why we write, whose answer usually provides the clearest path to where we most want to go.

Writing Coach
While I will from time to time offer craft or publishing advice, as a writing coach my primary goal is to help shift a writer's perspective. I believe it is fairly easy to teach yourself to write well enough to see your work published. It is not always so easy to allow yourself to say what you most want to say and share it with strangers. If you wish you had someone you could talk to about the challenges you face everyday in your creative work, challenges of confidence, self-consciousness, success, ambition, or loneliness, I might be of help to you.
