About Author
I am the Editor-in-Chief of Author magazine. Launched in 2008 and sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Writers Association, Author is a free online magazine for writers and readers, featuring articles on writing and the writing life, and video and audio interviews with bestselling and award-winning authors of all genres.
There are a lot of fine writing magazines in the world that provide volumes of excellent advice on the craft and the business of writing. While Author publishes its share of such articles, my focus for the magazine remains the writer's journey. When I had the opportunity to interview Louis Sachar, the bestselling author of Holes described commiserating with Judy Blume over the torment that accompanied the writing of every book. Was it any good at all? Would anybody want to read it? No amount craft or business savvy could answer those questions completely.
That these two veteran authors could suffer so is precisely why I started Author. Writing can seem a lonely calling, and every page begins exactly as blank for the experienced and inexperienced writer alike. Author is a companion of sorts, not just to guide newer writers through the evolving world of publishing, but as a friend to remind us that we chose that blank page, and that what the page asks of you it asks of everyone.
